Under the direction of the assigned manager, plan, coordinate, supervise
and participate in District grounds maintenance operations; inspect, review and evaluate the performance of grounds
personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, supervise and participate in the programs
    designed for the beautification, maintenance and cleanliness of District landscaped areas.
  • Prepare and implement District grounds
    maintenance, mowing, planting, watering and fertilizing schedules.
  • Inspect grounds for needed maintenance and safety hazards;
    arrange, schedule, supervise and perform mowing, fertilization, pruning, chemical application and control of pests and insects on a regular
    basis.
  • Line, mow and maintain athletic fields for various sports in accordance with established schedules and time lines; confer
    with the Athletic Director concerning special needs and problems.
  • Identify and resolve pest problems; supervise pesticide
    applications and assure compliance with State requirements and restrictions; provide training and current information to grounds personnel
    regarding pesticides.
  • Coordinate and participate in set-up and recovery of scheduled events on campus; oversee office and furniture
    moves.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of personnel in accordance with District guidelines and collective bargaining
    contract; assign and review the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Assist in the selection of grounds personnel; train, assign,
    discipline, supervise ground personnel and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
  • Design, install, repair and maintain
    irrigation systems utilizing appropriate water conservation techniques.
  • Operate and demonstrate the use of a variety of grounds
    equipment and tools including mowers, tractor, backhoe, trencher, edgers, pesticide applicators, forklift, rototiller and
    others.
  • Maintain a variety of records related to pesticide use, irrigation, work schedules and tool inventory.
  • Purchase and
    maintain an inventory of supplies, materials and equipment used in the grounds maintenance function.
  • Design and install landscaping
    for new and remodeled facilities.
  • Test new products and recommend appropriate action concerning findings.
  • Assure proper
    operation and repair of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Perform related duties as
    assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

A valid
California Driver License and valid Qualified Applicator Certificate issued by State is required.

Understanding of,
sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background, and sexual
orientation of community college students.
And
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school,
Or
Courses or
training in landscape design, horticulture, gardening or closely related field.
And
Four years of experience in gardening and grounds
maintenance work including experience in the operation and service of large power mowers, tractors and landscape equipment.
And
At
least one year of supervisory experience.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Physical and Environmental Factors: May perform hard labor
in temperatures above 90 degrees and in direct sunlight; work in or around major amounts of dust; frequent exposure to allergens; regularly
work with or around hazardous materials (may include pesticides, degreasing cleaners, etc.); lift heavy objects with and without assistance
(objects are sometimes elevated from floor level to above shoulders); frequently reach, bend, throw; climb, and maneuver in performing daily
duties.
